Today, April 8th, is One Day without shoes! It's not just a day to disobey the school rules, it's a day for a greater cause! There are several reasons to go barefoot, 1. Raising awareness for the children who go 365 days a year I all weather without shoes! 2. It is a personal experience that gives you an insight into what these people go through on a daily basis.
- In some developing nations, children must walk for miles to food, clean water and to seek medical help.
- Cuts and sores on feet can lead to serious infection.
- Often, children are not allowed to attend school barefoot.
- In Ethiopia, approximately one million people are suffering from Podoconiosis, a debilitating and disfiguring disease caused by walking barefoot in volcanic soil.
- All this is 100% preventable by wearing shoes.
